Current Status:

I am currently the Access Officer for Lancaster City Council, working in all fields of access and inclusion. I work within the planning process for The Lancaster district, where I advise on policy development and write supplementary planning guidance. My duties involve access assessments, consultation and advisory visits, Disability Discrimination Act dissemination, equality and awareness training and interpreting legislation and Building Regulations. My current role means I also assist local schools within the National Curriculum Citizenship curriculum and assist in the teaching of years 7 – 11 in disability awareness and equality issues.

I represent my employer both at a regional and national level and am currently regional chair of the North West England branch of the Access Association.and am involved with National Access Association executive functions. I am also involved in other groups such as the North West Regional Assembly’s transport group; the Northern Officer’s Group and other councils around the country. I speak regularly to bodies such as the Institute of Local Government Association, Historic Building Conservation; and have acted as an access advisor for the Civic Trust Awards for over 5 years. I am also currently Chair of Lancashire Constabulary’s Northern Division Independent Advisory Group, a group providing advice and guidance on all matters relating to diversity and community involvement.

Leisure Interests
I am extremely interested in history and am able to translate this interest into my professional activities. I enjoy archery and shot for my university, played wheelchair basketball, and swim. I sculpt miniature figurines, participate in digital photography and am developing my skills in Web page design, painting, computer artwork and pencil drawing. I read extensively and listen to an eclectic range of music.
